Hi Ali,
I'm glad you like the Squidoo page. I'm going to expand it soon so you might want to check back in a while.
I think if you have 1kyu and know how to program (even much better if you have experience working with it) in any language you'll be able to find a job in Japan. The job market is starting to pick up again now after the worst part of the recession is over.
I don't know about web developers explicitly but I see positions posted every once in a while. I don't think you need experience in C/C++ but those jobs may pay better. Although they are most often less fun too I think. ;)

Hi Henrik,

I found your squidoo page, the vocab on their is solid gold. If you wrote a book on programmer Japanese I would buy it.

I'm approaching 2kyu level in Japanese and can speak quite fluently, and I'm planning to move back to Japan in a couple of years, with my 1kyu in hand if possible. By then I'll have around five years of web app development experience in Ruby/PHP.

Whats the job situation like in Japan for web developers? I notice you've got a lot of different technologies listed on your CV. Do you think experience in a lower level programming language (C/C++) is a barrier to entry?

For what it's worth, I've applied for three different credit cards and been accepted every time. I'm a white gaijin.

I'd imagine one of the major factors in my acceptance was the fact that I work for a traditional Japanese company with a high credit rating. If you're working for a small software company, I'd imagine it will make things more difficult.

If you're willing to do everything in Japanese, the English support thing sounds like a weak excuse to me.

Joshua, yeah Latin isn't currently supported as it's not often found on the net. I'd like to add it some time though. For some reason, unknown languages often end up being classified as Tagalog. I guess Tagalog just looks like an average language. :)

"Etiam non eros at nisi euismod dignissim vel malesuada elit"
Which is found from more searching is actually mostly Latin resolved to Tagalog in this search. It doesn't seem close at all. Does your site support Latin? Also, could you show a relevancy list rather than a single result. Anyway, nice site tho.

Hi Karl,

I've just discovered your (very interesting) blog, and just noticed a little something that surprise me at the beggining of this article :

The first picture reads : "konshu wa nani o suru tumori desu ka"

And you translate it by : "What are you planning to do on this weekend ?"

Now, my japanese is nowhere near the required level to pass JLPT N1, so I may be mistaken but... "weekend ?" Really ?
